Nimble Revamps Email Templates: New Merge Tags for Elevated Outreaches

Nimble's Redesigned MergeTags

We’re excited to announce that Nimble has redesigned our Email Templates/Tracking and Group Messaging features with New Merge Tags! Now every field in Nimble’s contact record can be used to personalize outreaches with our updated email template merge fields.

These new features will now allow Nimble CRM customers to introduce a personal touch into each individual or group message they send with just a few simple steps!

What are Merge Tags?

Merge tags are designed to provide a simplified way to personalize each individual or group email that is sent through Nimble. For example, sending a generic email with a simple greeting such as “Hello valued customer” can come across as impersonal. But with merge tags, you can insert custom first names (and more!), making the email more personalized and engaging!

Previously, Nimble’s merge tag feature included limited fields such as:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Company Name
  • Title

While these fields provided some level of personalization, they were still restrictive for some. Building and fostering strong professional relationships with customers, prospects, and contacts requires a deeper level of personalization. So, that’s why we’ve lifted our previous merge tag restrictions. Now, every field included on a contact card can be included in an email whenever you need it!

So, What’s New with Merge Tags?

Merge tags has undergone a transformation, offering a modern take on our previous interface. The new and improved merge tags interface has been designed to simplify and streamline the overall email-formatting process, providing you with a seamless visual experience.

Previously, inserting a merge tag from Nimble’s dropdown menu would result in an automated popup insertion into your drafted email that looked like this:

Now, when a user inserts merge tags into their email draft, they will see brightly colored, bubble-style tags, stating the chosen field of their selected merge tag.

New Contact Field Options

In the past, Nimble featured four basic merge tag options. However, we are excited to now offer a range of new contact field options, while also providing the option to utilize any custom field associated with a contact card as a merge tag.

Here is a full list of Nimble’s current merge tag options:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Company Name
  • Title
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Social URL (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Foursquare, Angel List, Instagram, TikTok and Youtube)
  • Address
  • Any Custom Field!

This upgrade opens up a world of possibilities for creating more engaging emails and a deeper connection with any of your targeted contacts.

Primary Values & Default Values

When managing a contact card, you will find that certain fields, such as Email, Phone, Address, URL, and Social Profiles, can contain multiple values. For instance, if a contact has multiple URLs associated with them, you can input each and every URL into that individual’s contact record.

To accommodate multiple values within contact records in relation to merge tags, we are now offering the option to choose primary values for contact record fields. By selecting a primary value on a contact card, you can indicate to Nimble which piece of information should be used within merge tags when creating emails. This feature ensures that the correct information is automatically included in your communications, saving you time and minimizing the risk of errors.

When sending an email to a mass list of contacts with a merge tag for a specific field that’s not present in each contact’s record, you can now specify a default value when creating the email. This ensures that if no information is available for that field, the default value will be used instead. Imagine you want to use the “company name” merge tag in your message, but some contacts don’t have this field filled in on their contact card. No need to worry! Now, you can easily replace the missing information with an alternative word or phrase, such as “your company.” This ensures that your message remains personalized and engaging, even if some contact details are incomplete.

It’s important to note that specifying a default value is optional; if a default value is not set and no information is available, the field will be left blank.

When Would I Use Nimble’s New Merge Tag Features?

The possibilities are endless with our new merge tags, suitable for use in countless industries and scenarios!

For a general use case, imagine that you are attempting to outreach to an individual to collaborate on a project, but you want to add a more authentic touch to your message and make it appear less generic. By adding custom fields to your contact card, you can include specific details you have learned about your contact. These custom fields can then be used as merge tags, allowing you to create a more personalized and impactful communication experience.

Accounting professionals who use software like Quickbooks can benefit greatly from our merge tags when sending invoices. With just a few clicks, you can create custom fields that match your most frequently used data points, such as Invoice Number, Issued Date, and Purchase Amount. Then, these fields can be directly input into your emails as merge tags.

Recruiters can use merge tags to personalize their group messages, making them more engaging for their clients and candidates. By creating custom fields such as Interview Date, Seeking Title, and Current Employment, recruiters can tailor their messages to the specific needs and interests of each recipient.
